Your Guide to Step Challenges

What are step challenges?

Step challenges encourage you to meet your physical fitness goals, establish healthy habits, and connect with your team. Owning a fitness tracking device is not required – anyone can join in.

Compete to see who can reach the highest step count while earning rewards and getting in shape!

How do I join a step challenge?

When your organization sets up a step challenge, you will be notified by email. From the email, click the link to go to the challenge page and follow the steps below.

Step 1 - Join the step challenge

On the challenge page, click the button that says ‘Join’.

Step 2 - Connect your step tracking device

Connect your step tracking device. The following step tracking devices are supported by Cooleaf:

  • Misfit
  • Fitbit
  • Apple iPhone via HealthKit
  • Apple iWatch via HealthKit
  • Android devices supported by FitBit via MobileTrack (see the full list of devices accepted here: https://www.fitbit.com/devices)

If your device is already connected, you won’t see the screen above.

If you do not have any of the devices listed above, you can send a screenshot of your weekly step count totals to support@cooleaf.com. Your points will be awarded manually at the end of the challenge.

Step 3 - Allow your step tracking device to access motion & fitness activity

Your phone’s privacy settings may prevent Cooleaf from retrieving your step data. Here’s how you can allow Cooleaf to access your step data.

  1. Make sure either your HealthKit, Fitbit, or Misfit apps are accessing your ‘Motion & Fitness Activity’.
  2. When you download the Fitbit or Misfit apps, a message will prompt you to allow the app to access your ‘Motion & Fitness Activity’.
  3. Click ‘OK’ when you see this message.

Step 4 - Allow Cooleaf to read steps data

  1. In your phone settings, go into the ‘Privacy’ settings.
  2. Select the ‘Motion & Fitness’ category
  3. Select one of the following apps that you will be using to track your steps.
  4. Go back to the main ‘Privacy’ page of your phone settings and then click ‘Health’
  5. Click ‘Cooleaf’
  6. Allow Cooleaf to read step data.

If this button was turned off, turning it on will enable your steps to be displayed correctly on the step challenge page.

How do I manually sync or update my steps? (Mobile App Only)

  1. Log on to your Cooleaf account on the Cooleaf mobile app.
  2. Click on the ‘My Activities’ on the Cooleaf navigation bar.
  3. Click on the step challenge that you joined.
  4. On the challenge page click ‘Sync steps’.
Your steps will automatically sync about once every hour. It will take about 15 minutes for your steps to appear on the Cooleaf challenge leaderboard.

How do I connect a different step tracking device?

Mobile App

  1. Open the Cooleaf Mobile app
  2. Click your profile picture at the top left-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Head to your settings.
  4. Select Disconnect on your current step tracking device.

Desktop

  1. Log in to Cooleaf
  2. Head to your personal details page from the drop-down menu at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. On the right-hand side under 'Integrations', select 'Change settings'.
  4. Select 'Disconnect' on your current step tracking device.
Once you have disconnected your current or old step tracking device, follow steps 1-4 above to re-connect a new device.

Challenge Progress and Leaderboard

During the challenge, you will be able to see your daily progress on the challenge page, along with your daily stats (showing the number of steps you’ve logged each day of the challenge) and your overall stats (showing the number of reward points you’ve earned, the total number of steps you’ve taken throughout the challenge, your average steps per day, and the number of days you’ve achieved the daily step goal).

These stats are kept current based on your most recent sync. We encourage syncing your steps a few times each day in order to keep the Leaderboard up to date!

How do I make sure my device is properly connected?

To check to see if your device is properly connected, follow the steps below.

Mobile App

  1. Open the Cooleaf Mobile app
  2. Click your profile picture at the top left-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Select settings and scroll down to the ‘Integrations’ section. If your device is properly connected, you will see it listed here.

Desktop

  1. Log in to Cooleaf
  2. Head to your personal details page from the drop-down menu at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
  3. Scroll down to the ‘Integrations’ section. If your device is properly connected, you will see it listed here.

How do I earn reward points for step challenges?

Reward points are automatically added to your Cooleaf account when you reach the daily, weekly, or monthly step goal. After you receive the reward points, you will automatically receive a reward point confirmation email. You can also see your new reward points balance in the upper right-hand corner of the Cooleaf dashboard.
